My name is Greg Carter and you may have seen m mucking about on the dance floor in my neophyte way and gotten out of the way for fear of injury. Well I'm actively doing something about it. If you're new to tango, like me, need more practice, like me, and can not sustain the late week nights because you work a regular 8-5, like me. Then I have an option that might work for you. I rent a studio and hold a small practica every Thursday form 5:30 - 7:30. Come practice or drill. Take the opportunity to switch roles, lead to folIow, follow to lead, whatever.

I play a varied selection of classico and nuevo or if you have a selection on your "i-thing" you'd like to play, it's all good.

The address is 816 N. 38th St. It's located on the north end of the Aurora bridge to the west of 99. My number is 206-915-2536.

bienvenidos,

PART TWO (a brief review and continuation): Flawless and Feisty Followers - A Two Part Follower's Technique Class with Jennifer Olson

Due to the overwhelming response to my Feb. Flawless and Feisty Follower's Tech. class, I have decided to hold a second workshop over the March 10th and 11th weekend. This second workshop will review a few of the key details of the first workshop but will predominately delve deeper into the idea of each individual workshop day. I expect that demand for this workshop will be high, so please pre-register to guarantee your spot! :)

Day One (Flawless Followers) - Saturday, March 10th, 3 pm - 5 pm at
eXit Space near Green Lake (414 NE 72nd Street, Seattle, WA 98115)

After living in Buenos Aires for a year and teaching in Europe, I have seen many different womens' technique - some more flawless than
others. In Day 1 of this two-part follower's technique class, we will go over the essential methods necessary to achieve the perfect technique. The whole of the dance is based on this underlying structure and it's mastery is indispensable to becoming a flawless follower. Subtle details will be revealed allowing for a more thorough understanding of the dance as well as the follower's role in the dance. Day 1 will provide the necessary information for Day 2 (Feisty Followers).

Day Two (Feisty Followers) - Sunday, March 11th, 3 pm - 5 pm at
eXit Space near Green Lake (414 NE 72nd Street, Seattle, WA 98115)

In Day 2, we ladies will take our new found technique and develop our own personalized style. While technique is the necessary foundation to revealing your inner dancer, with technique alone, you are not sharing in the conversation with your partner. Your personality in the dance is an integral component of the dance. Move outside the box and start DANCING today instead of simply moving!

*Both days are intended to be taken in succession, but an individual workshop day may also be taken with instructor permission.
*Followers of all levels are welcome. Men who have an interest in following are also welcome.

COST:
Entire workshop (both days): $40 with pre-registration, $50 without (space permitting)

A mix and mingle happy hour paired with an engaging, interactive presentation by local author and Argentine tango teacher Gabriela Condrea of her book When 1+1=1: That "Impossible" Connection.

Sacadas series
with Max Kepler and Kathryn McDonald
Mondays, 1/30-2/20, 7:15-8:45pm, $60
** 4 follower spots left **

In this four week series, we will cover linear vs. circular sacadas, leader and follower sacadas, cross vs. open step sacadas, sacadas in close and open embrace, sacadas from overturned ochos, and how to integrate sacadas seamlessly into your social dancing.

A few of the questions we will address are:

For followers and leaders:
How can you stay grounded and maintain a nice connection during sacada displacements?

Especially for followers:
What makes a pretty leg line during the recovery from a sacada displacement?
What can you do to keep your balance during dynamic sacadas?
How can you tell when the lead is inviting you to displace him or her for a follower sacada?

Especially for leaders:
How can you make a deep sacada step without throwing the follower off axis?
Where can you find opportunities for sacadas within your dance?

Just a few spaces are left in this class. Please email Max to request a follower spot or to be put on the leader waiting list: dancekepler@gmail.com .

Hey all,

I just wanted to let you all know that I only have 5 more spots available in my Flawless and Feisty Follower's Technique class. If you are interested, I would recommend pre-registering now so that you are guaranteed a space! :) Please see below for more details!

Besos,
Jennifer

Flawless and Feisty Followers - A Two Part Follower's Technique Class with Jennifer Olson

Day 1 (Flawless Followers) - Saturday, Feb. 11th, 2 pm - 4 pm

After living in Buenos Aires for a year and teaching in Europe, I have seen many different womens' technique - some more flawless than others.

Day 2 (Feisty Followers) - Sunday, Feb. 12th, 2 pm - 4 pm

In Day 2, we ladies will take our new found technique and develop our own personalized style. While technique is the necessary foundation to revealing your inner dancer, with technique alone, you are not sharing in the conversation with your partner. Your personality in the dance is an integral component of the dance. Move outside the box and starting DANCING instead of simply moving!

*Both days are intended to be taken in succession, but an individual workshop day may also be taken.

*Followers of all levels are welcome. Men who have an interest in following are also welcome.

COST:
Entire workshop (both days): $40 with pre-registration, $50 without
One day only: $25 with pre-registration, $35 without

Please pre-register by emailing Jennifer at tangojennifer@gmail.com. Space is limited so please pre-register to guarantee your space! For more information please contact Jennifer at tangojennifer@gmail.com.

WHO IS JENNIFER?:
Video of an improvised performance in Vienna, Austria:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3Kb_I76Q70

Starting her tango career in Portland (OR), tango has now taken Jennifer all over the world: to Europe, to Argentina and Uruguay, and extensively throughout the United States and Canada.

Without a home and constantly on tour for the last seven years, Jennifer is happy to continue spreading her love of tango where ever she goes. During her travels, she taught at festivals and gave workshops in places such as Buenos Aires, Argentina (where she has lived for over a year); Montevideo, Uruguay; Palma De Mallorca, Spain; Madrid, Spain; Paris, France; Stockholm, Sweden; Zurich, Switzerland, Budapest, Hungary; Vienna, Austria; Hamburg, Germany; Berlin, Germany; London, England; Edinburgh, Scotland; Toronto, Canada; Montreal, Canada; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; Denver, CO; New York City, NY; Washington D.C.; Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Princeton, NJ (at Princeton University); New Haven, CT (at Yale University); and St. Louis, MO just to name a few.

Skilled in both leading and following, Jennifer frequently teaches alone, but has also taught regularly with known tango masters Alex Krebs, Robin Thomas, Evan Griffiths, Damian Lobato, and Martin Bel, with whom she currently partners.

Jennifer's dance is characterized by her desire to strive for versatility. Since tango is a social dance, she believes it is integral to master not only close and open embrace, but also everything in-between. Furthermore, after having a connected and comfortable embrace, nothing is more important to Jennifer than the music. This is transmitted in her teaching, as she approaches every class with a strong command over the music.

Hi All,

Saturday, Jan 21, at Civetta Dance Space, 124 N 103rd St at Greenwood, Seattle.
4-5:30pm - Advanced Paradas class for experienced tango dancers
5:30-7pm - Open Role practica

This week we are very excited about the return of seasoned guest instructor Kathryn Mcdonald! The topic will be "Circular Paradas to the Follower's Front Cross Step," and the class will include drills for timing, axis, connection, and foot placement for both lead and follow. We will also demonstrate and offer practice opportunities for a variety of pretty embellishments for followers, to help you avoid that "deer in the headlights" feeling when the leader offers you the opportunity to express your voice during a parada moment.

A minimum of 100 hours prior tango experience (combined class + dance time) is recommended for this class.
Lesson fee $14, for the 90-minute workshop, includes admission to the Open-Role practica. ($6 for the guided practica only).

I hope you will consider joining me tomorrow for what is sure to be a fun and illuminating class.

This Monday, The 8th Style School of Tango will begin a Men's Following class. Carol Smith & Bill Juzwiak will be teaching the class. Our aim is to give men a different perspective on the dance and to expand possibilities. It is not simply a class on "how to follow" or "how to dance the woman's role." It is meant, instead to open doorways to help us dance better in all situations. Ultimately, we hope the class will enhance the ability of the students to give their partners the best dance possible.

Class will be held in the University District). You can register and get more information at http://www.the8thstyle.com.

Purposes:
1) To better understand our dance partners, enabling us to be better leaders
2) To practice with, and be “feedback machines” for, our male colleagues
3) To practice skills that make us better dancers, regardless of role
4) To dance the woman’s role socially

Schedule:
Week 1: Walking backward & staying connected, the cross, introduction to volcada
Week 2: The back-side-cross (milonguero) turn and the molinete (classic salon)
Week 3: Forward and backward ochos, the woman’s embrace, social issues
Week 4: Boleos, and why every man must follow them
Week 5: The woman’s open and forward sacadas

2012 "The Year of the Dragon"

Join us in this very special celebration of the Chinese New Year.

Flawless and Feisty Followers - A Two Part Follower's Technique Class with Jennifer Olson

eXit Space near Green Lake (414 NE 72nd Street, Seattle, WA, 98115)

After living in Buenos Aires for a year and teaching in Europe, I have seen many different womens' technique - some more flawless than others.

Day 2 (Feisty Followers) - Sunday, Feb. 12th, 2 pm - 4 pm at
eXit Space near Green Lake (414 NE 72nd Street, Seattle, WA, 98115)

In Day 2, we ladies will take our new found technique and develop our own personalized style. While technique is the necessary foundation to revealing your inner dancer, with technique alone, you are not sharing in the conversation with your partner. Your personality in the dance is an integral component of the dance. Move outside the box the box and starting DANCING instead of simply moving!

*Both days are intended to be taken in succession, but an individual workshop day may also be taken.
*Followers of all levels are welcome. Men who have an interest in following are also welcome.

Co-create an active partnership, see "mistakes" as opportunities, dance in the moment, be in the moment. Spend four hours of your life feeling rather than thinking. This workshop will help you focus on the present: on yourself, your partner, and the conversation that is tango. Tango is a game of improvisation: seize each moment of every tango - and play. -- presented by Gabriela Condrea
